From a different perspective . . .
The water feels good today, clear and warm, and there is plenty of food swimming in schools here and there, but I'm looking for bigger fish than those little minnows. I want to sink my teeth into something large and juicy. What? What was that? There, there it is again, streaking through the water, something fluorescent . . . Oh, I know. That's those fishermen again. They keep coming out here and draggin' all those brightly colored plastic fish things through the water. They think we're too stupid to know the difference, but sometimes they make me so mad I just want to bite 'em anyway. What was that shadow that just passed overhead? Oh, yeah, that's Captain Rick. I know all about him - you have to be real careful when he's around. But wait, what's this? What is that guy doing? I can see him from here, leaning way out over the side of the boat trying to see if there's anything deep down here. I wish he'd fall out. Look over there - it's so pathetic - what does he think that thing looks like? Another fish? Maybe an eel or something? A squid? Hey, I'm going to teach that guy a lesson. CHOMP! There, sucker, see if you can hang on to this . . . YIPPEE!! Head for the deep water. Look at that guy try to hang on. Look at his arms just a'pumping. Rest a moment, let him think he's gaining ground, NOW - rush for the deeper water again. This guy must be using 300lb test line - usually it breaks by now. Well, this is getting interesting. He never lets up. I'm getting tired of this. Up on the boat the fisherman is tired, too. All the line is about to be stripped off the reel and the fish is no closer to getting reeled in. Deep in the water the hooked-on grouper sees that the time is now, and in one supreme motion, heads deep, strips off the rest of the line down to where the line is tied to the reel, and with one mighty jerk, pulls the fisherman right over the side of the boat. CHOMP! again, and the big fish has finally caught the catch of his life. Thanks, Captain Rick, bring me some more . . . |
