While I have frequently fished the Cape Fear River on my own time and with
customers, I have never here to fore singled out the River as to
its viability for good inshore fishing. It is time for that to change.
The Cape Fear or the River as I will call it has long been known
for its great fishing for flounder, reds and trout, and many more
species of quality fish. It has been said that fishing the river
for a life time will only net you half of its secrets. To say it
another way, it is in fact a vast area of fishing hot spots that
simply cannot be fully learned. The idiosyncrasies of the tides,
the shallows and the deep holes make for an ever challenging fishery
bound to stump the novice and challenge the seasoned pro.
I am pleased to start purposely offering guided trips into the
River. Because of the distance from my dock, the cost is a tiny
bit more, but often the rewards are far greater. Light tackle inshore
fishing with bait and artificials in the River can produce some
awesome catches with double digit flounder, bull reds and gator
trout the results.
So next time you are looking for a true fishing adventure consider
asking for a trip to the River. The beauty and subtleties are worth
the trip.
